The Owners

Owners Gary and Tara Crouch were both competitive swimmers in Northern California.  Tara continued to swim in college on a full athletic scholarship to UNLV.  She was an All American and finalist at the US Open.

Tara & Gary have worked at numerous learn-to-swim programs beginning in 1985.  In 2000, they started Las Vegas Swim Academy.  In 2005, Tara and Gary purchased the Skalak Swim School.  They are thrilled to be able to continue the Skalak Swim School’s long tradition of helping make children safe in and around the water.  The Skalak Swim School began teaching children to swim in 1963.

Tara and Gary have coached various recreational, USS and high school swim teams.  They coached the Silverado High School Swim Team for 7 years, winning the Nevada State Championship in 2001 and the Sunrise Mountain High School Swim Team for 3 years.  Over the years they have coached numerous All Americans and nationally ranked swimmers.

Tara & Gary are the proud parents of three children, Davis, Taylor and Brady.  When Gary is not at the pool he is a Realtor, teaches courses at CSN and teaches mathematics at West Career and Technical Academy.  Tara teaches high school mathematics at Palo Verde High School.

Our Staff

Our instructors are carefully chosen for their expertise working with children, maturity, and ability to communicate at the child’s level.  We have trained our instructors in time-proven methods as well as the latest developments in swimming instruction.  We attend national conferences to keep abreast of the latest in swim instruction and techniques.  Many of our swim instructors are currently or have been competitive swimmers.

Our infant and toddler classes are taught by specially trained instructors.  Las Vegas Swim Academy has completed Level III of the United States Swim School Association (USSSA) Infant/Toddler Swimming Course.

Several of our instructors have been recognized nationally by the United States Swim School Association as Outstanding Swim Instructors.
